自发性高血压大鼠（Spontaneous Hypertension Rat,SHR)是原发性自发形成高血压的大鼠。在1961年左右，日本京都大学（Kyoto University）医学院Okamoto（Kozo Okamoto）实验室在Wistar大鼠中将具有自发性高血压（尾静脉压即收缩压150-175mmHg）的雄性Wistar大鼠（7周龄）与血压稍高于平均水平的（收缩压140-150mmHg）雌性Wistar大鼠交配，从所得的F1代开始进行近交筛选。在近交筛选过程中观察到，随着代数增加，自发性高血压发生率逐渐增大，而发生的时间（年龄）越来越早，严重高血压（高于200mmHg）的大鼠发生率也越来越高。最终形成了所有雄性和雌性自发高血压发生率100%的近交系SHR。
